The Best Destination Wedding Resort That Feels Like a Splurge Without Breaking the Bank
Dreams Playa Mujeres strikes the perfect balance for destination weddings. It feels elevated without the ultra-luxury price tag, spacious without feeling overwhelming, and offers exceptional value for both couples and their guests.
The resort features a clean, modern design with white stone buildings, open-air walkways, lush tropical landscaping, and pops of turquoise throughout. Although it opened in 2016, it remains beautifully maintained and stylish. Plus, its thoughtful layout gives wedding groups plenty of room to spread out while still feeling connected.
The food is another highlight. Guests can choose from a buffet, French, Italian, Japanese, and grilled specialties, along with cafés, snack bars, and poolside dining. As a result, there’s something for every taste. Overall, I’d give the dining an A for quality, variety, and consistency.
Service is warm and reliable throughout the resort. Guests staying in the Preferred Club receive additional perks, including a dedicated concierge, exclusive restaurant access, and a rooftop pool.
The beach is one of Playa Mujeres’ biggest advantages. Because Isla Mujeres acts as a natural barrier offshore, the area typically experiences less sargassum than many nearby beaches. In addition, guests can enjoy multiple infinity pools, a lazy river for Preferred Club guests, a water park with slides, and a dolphin habitat designed within a natural ocean environment.
Rooms are spacious, modern, and ideal for wedding groups. Swim-out suites are always popular, while larger family suites make traveling with children much easier. Better yet, guests ages 18 and older also enjoy access to the neighboring Secrets Playa Mujeres. This combination makes Dreams Playa Mujeres an excellent choice for groups that include both families and adults-only travelers.

The Beach Venue offers a blank canvas, allowing you to customize your ceremony décor from the ground up.
Alternatively, the Wedding Gazebo features a beautiful wooden structure connected by a boardwalk, with mangroves and the Caribbean Sea creating a naturally tropical backdrop.
For larger guest lists, the Central Garden provides a spacious alternative. Its circular ceremony platform, landscaped gardens, and tropical setting offer all the beauty of an outdoor wedding without the sand.
The Over the Water Experience
The Over the Water venue is easily one of the resort’s signature wedding locations. Depending on the day of the week, it requires a minimum of 50 to 70 guests. However, the unforgettable ocean views and dramatic acrylic walkway make it well worth considering.
Couples wanting even more privacy can reserve the Paramount Suite, which accommodates ceremonies for up to 60 guests.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Suite Ocean Front allows for completely private celebrations of up to 80 guests.

The Cove Terrace is one of my favorite reception venues thanks to its elegant stone flooring and romantic evening atmosphere.
The Mermaid Terrace offers additional privacy because it sits away from the resort’s main walkways. Meanwhile, the Pool Terrace delivers classic tropical resort vibes surrounded by palm trees and water.
Couples who reserve either the Paramount or Presidential Suites can even host their cocktail hour and reception privately within their suite.
If you prefer an indoor celebration, the Azure Veranda and the Ballroom provide elegant, air-conditioned alternatives.
