An Honest Review of Hyatt Zilara Cancun by Barefoot Brides Trish & Laura
Nestled in a very safe and upscale area of Cancun, the Hyatt Zilara Cancun combines old-world charm with an impeccable service experience that makes it stand out among luxury resorts. While it may not have the modern, sleek design of newer resorts, Zilara is an ideal destination wedding choice if you’re seeking quality over modern aesthetics, as well as breathtaking views, culinary excellence, and unmatched service. And with an upcoming nine-month renovation, there could be a unique opportunity to book now at pre-remodel prices and potentially experience the new look at a great value.
Classic Decor, Timeless Service
Yes, the decor may feel like a 2005 Tuscan inspired kitchen remodel, but Hyatt Zilara has all the amenities you’d expect from a top-tier resort. Each room has an ocean view, ensuring you can enjoy the waves from the moment you wake up. This older charm doesn’t take away from the experience; rather, it adds a cozy, classic feel. Every element of your stay is managed with meticulous care, from the cleanliness of the rooms to the exceptional attention from the staff, making it clear why Zilara’s experience remains unmatched, even among newer properties.
Impeccable Dining and Mixology
If you’re a foodie, you’ll love Hyatt Zilara. The resort has three main restaurants, and while this may seem limited, each option is of such high quality that you won’t feel like you’re missing out. They often host special events, like a “Mexican Celebration” night, complete with authentic food stations and spectacular performances that bring a festive energy to the resort.
The drinks here are beyond typical resort quality. The mixology bar was by far our favorite, offering a quiet, sophisticated setting to unwind. Every cocktail is crafted with precision, a welcome departure from the usual resort fare. We’ve rarely had drinks this good at resorts, even at other high-end properties.
A Small Resort with a Big Heart
Hyatt Zilara is on the smaller side compared to other sprawling all-inclusive resorts, which actually makes it feel more intimate. With just one large pool, you’ll find it easier to gather with your wedding guests without losing anyone. It’s perfect for group getaways, allowing everyone to stay connected and make the most of their time together. The beach isn’t completely private, but it’s less crowded than others, offering plenty of space to enjoy the sun and sand without feeling overwhelmed.
Renting a $60 cabana was a great way to have a “home base” by the pool each day for your group. If you have someone willing to get up early, there are also free cabanas available, making it easy to claim a great spot for the day.
Authentic Mexican Cuisine with a Familiar Twist
If you want good, quality handmade Mexican food, this is your place. The only other Mexican food we’ve had that was more authentic was at Xcarte Arte. Where that was probably more authentic and traditional, this food was a lot more familiar for a less adventurous group (no “seasonal bugs” to be found on this menu).
An Ideal Location for Exploring Cancun
The area of Cancun this resort is situated in seems extremely safe. As you come up to the resort you pass high end shopping on either side. We, along with several other members of our party, ventured outside of the resort often and felt completely safe. However, just a note, where other resorts had gates, guards and guest lists at the entrance to the property, here you just drive right up to the front entrance where you’re greeted by a bellhop.
Extra Touches That Make a Difference
From attentive staff to thoughtful details like a mini-bar note card where you can request specific refills, Zilara truly excels in personalized service. Every room has a breathtaking ocean view, and although the balconies on the lower floors may lack privacy, the waves make up for it. The showers are spacious and luxurious, adding an extra touch of relaxation to your stay.
Our experience with the spa was mixed. While my massage with Brenda was incredible, my partner didn’t feel the same about her experience. The “water journey” setup is more self-guided, which may not be everyone’s preference if you’re looking for a more immersive spa experience.
Would We Go Back?
The Hyatt Zilara Cancun offers a warm, luxurious experience with a few nostalgic touches. It’s perfect for couples and groups looking for a smaller, more connected resort with an unbeatable location and top-notch food and drinks. If you value modern decor, you might want to wait for the remodel, but if you’re seeking a relaxing, high-quality getaway with a touch of old-world charm, Zilara is a fantastic option.
In a nutshell, Hyatt Zilara Cancun is ideal for destination wedding guests who prioritize service, safety, and stunning ocean views over ultra-modern decor. It’s a place where comfort meets quality, and every detail is designed to ensure a memorable stay. And with the upcoming renovation, it’s a prime time to book now and potentially enjoy a refreshed experience later!
